Dear Booklovers:
Valentine's Day... seems like people either love it or hate it. Breaking up with
my boyfriend the weekend before Valentine's Day this year left me anxious over
the holiday... wouldn't it have been smarter to break up with him after my
chocolates and roses, I found myself asking myself. No, no, that just wouldn't
have been nice. Suddenly, I realized I was conversing withy my newly single self
on Valentine's Day. Not good. Alas! A brilliant idea occurred to me. I'd go out
with my friends dancing instead of spending the evening alone, chocolate and
flowerless. No matter how va-va-vroom I looked when I went out, no matter
I danced the night away, it still felt a little depressing being in a bar, dateless, on
Valentine's Day.
This wasn't my first Valentine's Day alone, I remember breaking up with my now
ex-husband before Valentine's Day one year when we were still dating. I ate the
entire heart box of chocolates I'd bought for him. Blugh!
So all this Valentine's Day reflecting got me to thinking, maybe I wasn't the
