Jewel Stone has proven herself a terrific storyteller with a fabulous cast of characters in her latest effort, Escapade For One. Her plotting is masterful, as she turns up both the suspense and sexual tension a notch at a time throughout this book's wonderful twists and turns.
Amanda Jordan, or A.J., the nickname she's known by, owns a successful singles adventure service, Escapade For One, in Seattle and has accompanied ten clients to her wildness cabin in Montana. A.J. meets Rhett Porter in the wilds of Montana in a most unusual way while he's tracking the criminal, Oliver Redding. From the start he makes no bones about his sexual attraction to her. But, this "Marlboro" man, complete with cowboy hat and tight denim Wranglers is far from A.J.'s perfect man and she lets him know it--although her heart is telling her differently. Rhett insists on seeing A.J. back to the cabin and safety of her group. He maintains Redding's nearby.
When A.J. discovers a dead rabbit strung up outside her bedroom window, Rhett decides to stay the night for moral support of the group. An unexpected late snowstorm hits, the power fails and they discover the radio's been vandalized. Rhett decides A.J. and her inexperienced group of five men and women must return down the mountain immediately for everyone's safety.
On the trip down the mountain it becomes apparent the hunted has now become the hunter. It's also apparent A.J.'s falling under Rhett's seductive spell.
Before the two can surrender to their love, Rhett must overcome the guilt he feels and A.J. must conquer her unwillingness to entrust her heart to another man. And then, there's the not-so-easy task of staying alive.
Two near fatal accidents leave the group shaken, but when Rhett is shot and nearly killed, he swears A.J. to secrecy about his quarry, Oliver Redding.
Rhett safely deposits A.J. and her clients at the ranger station and immediately departs after Redding. A.J. has an epiphany about the man Rhett's hunting. He's not who Rhett thinks and is much more dangerous. After her clients are safely aboard the ranger helicopter, she set's out to warn Rhett, fearing she's already too late. To tell more would only serve to spoil the magic.
Love found and lost, self-sacrifice and more, weave a tapestry of suspense and sizzling romance making Escapade For One, a sure-to-please, must-read.

Rhett Porter has come to Montana stalking a killer. AJ is there with ten people she is escorting for her fledgling business Escapade For One, an adventure club for singles. They meet when AJ is bathing nude in a stream outside of her cabin. He is watching her with delight, when he hears a rustling in the bushes. AJ hears it too, gets out of the water, puts on her shirt and leaps onto a rock. Rhett calls for Oliver Reading, the murderer, to come out. AJ is startled and falls into the stream. Rhett fishes her out and takes her back to her cabin. She is furious with him, and wants him to go away. She's not sure there really is a bad guy out there. And then, things get interesting.
In the cabin, they find a rabbit, hung up and gutted and dripping blood. Right away AJ is convinced there is a bad guy. It occurs to them both, who is stalking whom? And now it starts to snow. Rhett stays to help her, and by morning, they are snowed in. All of AJ's clients are city people and they want to go home. Somehow she has to get them all down off this mountain. With Rhett's help they begin, but soon one man falls into a deep hole and breaks his leg. Things are not getting better. I don't dare say anymore, except that the excitement builds, the sexual tension builds, and you just can't stop reading.
I have heard it said that there are no more alpha males in romance. Wrong! Rhett Porter is the perfect alpha male. Or should I say he is the perfect male? He is handsome, brave, kind, gentle. A touch stubborn, but what perfect man isn't? AJ is a strong woman who has been an abused wife and has extracted herself from the terrible situation to start her own business. She tries from the beginning to discount her attraction to Rhett and he, because of feelings of guilt, does not want to be attracted to her or any woman. Watching them both change and grow throughout this story is delightful. I do hope you enjoy Escapade For One as much as I did!

A.J., owner of Escapade For One, just wants to give her clients an adventure and maybe a chance at love. She didn’t bargain on Rhett Porter or the man he is hunting getting in the way. A. J. is determined not to let things get ruined though, so when things start to go from bad to worse, she knows she has to get her clients out of the mountains. With Rhett’s help they all make it to the ranger station, but along the way things get very interesting and dangerous.
Rhett is going to get Oliver Redding, even if he has to wait until he gets all these innocents off the mountain. Rhett trusted the system once and it failed; he won’t do that again. Rhett never counted on wanting A.J.; but he has from the first moment he saw her. Rhett knows he’s not the man for her, but when things get dangerous he knows he can’t let anything happen to A.J. Can they overcome the dangers they face to find happiness? Will the past be too much for them to forget?
ESCAPADE FOR ONE is full of twists and turns that will surprise you. The hero is that Alpha male you can’t help but love, and the heroine is strong even if she doesn’t know it. While there may be times you feel like you’re reading the typical thriller, this one is full of things you don’t expect. At least I didn’t. If you are looking for a great story full of twists and turns with funny moments and some wonderful characters, then this is the story for you. I can’t wait to see what else Ms. Stone has in store with her next novel.

“If you want suspense and intrigue
along with a scary villain mixed in with your romance, then Escapade For One is for you. Jewel Stone has written an incredible story that will keep you absorbed until the very end. Don’t start this book until you have plenty of time to read, because you won’t want to put it down until the very end.”~

4 Stars!
She looked like a fairy princess kneeling beside the water naked to the waist
and washing her hair. She was enough of a vision to make Rhett Porter forget why
he was in this Montana mountain. Rhett caught a movement in the bushes, jumped
the stream and grabbed her. When he grabbed her and A. J. looked into his face,
she thought the earth moved.
A. J. owns Escapade For One, a singles adventure service and has brought a group
of ten to property she owns in the Montana Rockies. She told Rhett he was
trespassing and to get off her land. Rhett warned her to take her group off the
mountain because the man he is hunting Oliver Redding is dangerous. Rhett is
after Redding for the rape and murder of the widow of his friend in her cabin.
He blames himself for Redding being out of jail on a technicality. A. J. refuses
to leave; thinking Rhett is trying to scare her into his arms.
Someone had skinned and gutted a rabbit and hung it outside the bathroom window.
This is not the first incident. A. J. has noticed but she didn't tell Rhett and
dismissed the incident with the rabbit. A. J. didn't tell Rhett what her last
name was, and neither did she tell him that she knew Redding, had been married
to him when he was Gary Hammond. She divorced him when he became abusive and
couldn't be sure whether he was looking for her or running from Rhett.
ESCAPADE FOR ONE is a well-written fast-paced suspense thriller that captures
your attention from the first page. Rhett is a strong protective male who also
has honor. A. J. is strong but not as trusting as she should be. The secondary
characters add some excitement to the storyline. I liked this book because it
gave me romance, suspense and a plot that has enough twists I couldn't even
begin to guess the ending.
